Which UWIN Surface System Is Used for Kids Playgrounds?

UWIN Floortech recommends two configurations of EPDM rubberised flooring for children's play areas: the Sandwich System (SBR base with EPDM top) for standard playgrounds, and Full-Pour EPDM (100% EPDM granule, 13mm–25mm) for high-wear play zones. Both systems provide critical shock absorption to protect joints from impact.

A child's play area demands a surface engineered for impact absorption, slip resistance, and all-weather durability. Hard concrete and asphalt surfaces cause knee injuries and joint strain when children run, jump, or fall. Upgrading these spaces with a rubberised surface is a fundamental safety decision for school administrators and facility managers.

We do not force a single thickness or configuration onto every project. Our EPDM systems are poured-in-place, creating a seamless surface that conforms to the landscape and provides consistent shock absorption. While we also supply PP interlocking tiles for marked game and court zones inside a play area, our EPDM systems are the primary recommendation for broad playground surfacing.

Please note that our Spray-Coat EPDM system is designed strictly for pathway resurfacing and is not a play-safety surface.

EPDM Rubberised Play Area Systems

We supply three surfacing options for play areas and active zones. The appropriate system depends on the level of shock absorption required and whether the area is intended for open play or marked sports.

Sandwich System (SBR Base + EPDM Top)

The sandwich system is our standard recommendation for school playgrounds and jogging tracks. It combines a recycled SBR rubber base layer for deep shock absorption with a virgin EPDM top wear layer for UV-stable colour and surface durability.

Full-Pour EPDM (13mm–25mm)

The full-pour system consists of 100% virgin EPDM granules bound with polyurethane MDI moisture-cure binder, typically specified between 13mm and 25mm thickness. This is the premium specification for high-wear play zones and athletic tracks.

PP Interlocking Tiles (For Court Zones)

For specific marked game and court zones inside a wider play area, we supply UV-stabilised PP interlocking modular tiles. These tiles provide a cleanable, modular surface for active sports but do not provide the same impact absorption as EPDM.

Sub-Base Requirements

A poured-in-place EPDM system requires a structurally sound, flat, and cured sub-base to bond correctly. We install over M20 grade steel-reinforced concrete or compacted asphalt with a minimum 1% slope for water drainage.

ConcreteMinimum M20 grade, steel-reinforced. Must be fully cured (28 days) before EPDM installation.
AsphaltCompacted asphalt is acceptable if fully cured (14 days) and structurally sound.
Drainage SlopeMinimum 1% slope required to ensure surface water run-off.
Surface PrepMust be clean, dry, and free of dust, oils, or loose debris. Primer coat is applied before the base layer.

Who Is This For?

UWIN Floortech partners with institutions that prioritise student safety and long-term infrastructure value. Our manufacturer-direct model serves schools, residential developers, and municipal contractors across India.

Schools and Universities

For educational institutions, surface selection is a student health and institutional liability decision. EPDM's shock-absorbing properties protect student athletes from joint strain. Budget range: Rs 5L to Rs 50L per project.

Residential Developers and Societies

Township builders specify our EPDM systems for premium project differentiation and RERA compliance. We deliver safe, vibrant multi-sport and play zones for communities. Budget range: Rs 10L to Rs 1Cr+ for township multi-sport zones.

Government and Municipal Contractors

Civil contractors executing public park and fitness park tenders rely on our MSME registration, GST compliance, and manufacturer-direct pricing. Budget range: Rs 25L to Rs 10Cr per project lot.

Standards & Specifications

Safety and Dimensional Standards

UWIN Floortech provides EPDM systems engineered for impact absorption and durability. We specify system thickness based on facility requirements.

While our EPDM surfaces are designed to absorb impact and reduce joint strain compared to hard concrete, this page does not claim compliance with specific critical fall height standards (such as EN 1177 or ASTM F1292), nor do we claim the materials are "non-toxic" or "heavy-metal-free" without specific testing documentation. We guarantee the dimensional and material specifications of the EPDM and SBR layers as contracted.

Pricing & Installation Process

We bypass trading middlemen who add 25-40% margins, supplying certified EPDM materials directly from producers. Our trained crews handle the complete installation, giving you one accountable partner from concrete to finished play area.

Step 1: Site Assessment & Consultation

We evaluate your existing concrete or asphalt sub-base, discuss the play equipment layout, and determine the appropriate EPDM system and thickness required.

Step 2: Specification & Proposal

You receive a manufacturer-direct proposal detailing the exact material composition (virgin EPDM vs SBR ratio), binder type, and installation timeline.

Step 3: Turnkey Installation & Handover

Our specialised crews apply the primer, pour and level the rubber granules, and cure the surface. We hand over a seamless, ready-to-use play area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions we receive about playground safety surfaces and EPDM installation in India.

What is the best flooring for a kids playground in India?

The best flooring for a kids playground in India is a poured-in-place EPDM rubberised surface. Unlike hard concrete, EPDM provides critical shock absorption to protect children's joints from impact. It is seamless, UV-stable for 8-10 years, and withstands extreme Indian outdoor conditions.

What is the difference between EPDM and SBR in a play area?

SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber) is recycled rubber, typically used as the thicker, shock-absorbing base layer in a sandwich system. EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a virgin synthetic rubber compound used as the top wear layer because of its superior UV resistance, colour stability, and durability.

Can EPDM be installed over an existing concrete or asphalt playground?

Yes, EPDM can be poured directly over existing concrete or asphalt, provided the sub-base is structurally sound, free of major cracks, and has a minimum 1% drainage slope. Our team assesses the base during the site visit to ensure proper bonding.

How do I choose the right EPDM thickness for my playground?

System thickness is determined by the specific requirements of your facility and the height of the play equipment. We supply full-pour EPDM systems typically between 13mm and 25mm. Final thickness is specified during our site assessment stage. Contact us on WhatsApp at +91 98216 48112 for a consultation.
